Krishna's Flute

This is part of my ongoing series on the Mahabharat, an epic poem of ancient India. For links to all previous Mahabharat posts go here. Or you can simply click on the Mahabharat page link above.

I've been wracking my brains all week, trying to come up with a decent Mahabharat post for you. Please understand that my predicament is no fault of the epic itself but of my own weak and mortal mind that is subject to flaws and dullness and lack of insight. Therefore I'm failing in my duty to provide you with a Friday sweet this week. Anything I come up with simply does not do justice to the story.

Thus I have decided not to post anything substandard.

Instead, I'm going to leave you with some stunning flute music that will hopefully relax and inspire you as you go into your weekend.

Krishna, the greatest flute player in existence, enchanted all the world with his music. So be prepared for enchantment.

That is some haunting flute playing. Lovely. I'm a mediocre out-of-practice flute player myself. Thanks for sharing.

Jaleh, I've always wanted to learn how to play the flute myself but have never had the opportunity. It's an amazing instrument. I'd love to hear you play sometime. Maybe you could do a video blog about it?

OMG is just right! I mean, that music... is... just what I needed after coming home from work. Now, I feel like a massage... and a glass of wine. I'm off! Thank you, Jai. Wishing you a lovely weekend!

Diane, those images are gorgeous, aren't they? I fell in love with them after I fell in love with the music.

Thanks for the lovely music. In school for the school band, I played the flute, and I am sure I played badly. This was wonderful.

Jai Joshi said...

Rachna, I bet you were much better than you thought you were. You're better than me, at any rate! I can't play a note because I never learned.

I am a good bit out of practice, and my flute needs new pads, but if I get that taken care of, I might. Though I also have a bamboo flute I could use, just no music for it. It does have a beautiful sound.

Jai Joshi said...

Oh the bamboo flute is gorgeous! I'd love to hear you play it, Jaleh.

I can relate to that mortal mind..and I do love the sound of a flute.

Jai Joshi said...

Lynda, my mind has felt more mortal than usual this last week. *sigh*

Jai, the music was lovely. It made me feel relaxed, and I did a little pondering too. I like music like that.
This is probably very different, but Lemonade by CocoRosie does this to me. It relaxes me while I ponder. Listen to it when you get a chance.
Have a god week, dear.

LOVE!

I do like the flute. I know someone who is a flautist. A very good one. She used to play in an orchestra. Of course she practiced crazy hours to become so accomplished.

Jai Joshi said...

tywo, I'll check out Lemonade right now. It sounds lovely.

Stephen, the dedication musicians have for their music is much like the dedication we writers have for our words. There's a beautiful relation between the two art forms.
